I'm pixelated

The question in the last post could be irrelevant if I don't get my act sorted soon.

I've spent the last hours (maybe one but it seems longer) battling with Photoshop. I bought the software last weekend and have no idea how to use it (so I did a pretty good job on the cover, bearing that in mind) and am struggling to put a simple thin grey border (that Amazon says is necessary for pale covers) around my image. The best I've been able to come up with is a pre-designed border of 10 pixels, which I think is a bit thick. But I can't change it. Nor can I work out the size of my image in pixels.

I'm going to go and ice a cake and sulk now.

I used photoshop elements for a while but for some reason couldn't load it on the laptop after the computer I had it on was stolen. So I can't address what to do there.

But you can probably determine the pixel size of your image if you open it in Paint and click Resize then tick pixels.

Hi Liz, Anonymous again :P

Try this:

1. Select the layer where you would like the border to appear.
2. Select -> All
3. Choosed Edit -> Stroke

Choose the size of the border in pixels, as well as the colour. Select Center, Inside, or Outside to position the border.

Good luck :)

Hi Liz,

Anonymous again again... I don't think my last post was all that clearly worded:

Select the layer you want the border to appear on via the 'Layers' box (right hand side). Or create a new layer.

1. Chooose 'Select' -> then 'All'
2. Choose 'Edit' -> then 'Stroke'.
3. In the Stroke box, enter the size of the border in pixels.
4. Click the colour box to choose the colour by dragging the circle around to the correct hue.
5. Select Center, Inside or Outside to determine where in relation to the edge of your image that the border will appear.
6. Click OK (you don't really need to touch the other options, but you can mess around if you like).

In case anon's advice fails you, I have called on a photoshop user I know to look in.

Whatever you do while trying things out, save the original in a separate file or two in case you get totally messed up.

Hello, Anonymous again again again. To see the size of your image in pixels, click on Image -> Image Size. :)

Thank you, Katney and Anonymous! I think I now have the right sort of border and size.

Ah I am glad you got good advice from Anonymous. I am all at sea with Photoshop. I find Nikon's NX2 far easier to use

I'm sure it's possible to do wonderful things with photoshop, jams, it's just taking the time to sit down and work through it all carefully. Time I don't have!!
