Took down the tree this afternoon. I carefully collected each strand of lametta and put it back in its little bag. Natural wastage means that even with my careful recycling there won't be enough one year and what will I do then? The only place I've been able to find it in the past is Woolworths and now, like Christmas, that's gone.
Lametta is much better than tinsel I feel, giving the tree more of a sparkly spider-web look. I think it's meant to represent the spider in the stable. Or am I thinking of Robert the Bruce in a cave? If at first you don't succeed ... bother, now I have Homer Simpson saying, 'give up,' in my head.
Tidying after un-decorating I found a chocolate down the side of the sofa! Such was my joy that I ate it even though it was a coconut eclair.
A new series of Lark Rise to Candleford starts on television in a few minutes. It's ideal Sunday evening viewing that doesn't require a brain so that's me settled.

I do not know what lametta is.
There is a legend that when the Holy Family was escaping to Egypt, they took shelter in a cave. A spider spun a web across the entrance. When the soldiers came looking, they did not investigate the cave because no one could possibly be inside.
I think there is a similar story about Robert the Bruce, though.
Ah yes, that's it, katney. Lametta is lots of strands of silver or gold, very thin and shimmery, that drape over the tree branches.

I haven't been in a Woolworths in years but I remember it was one of my favourite hang outs as a child and teenager. I guess I could afford to buy stuff in there.
Woolworths is still alive and kicking here...but I choose to shop at Aldi.
However, I did get some Christmas decorations but not lametta...I've never heard of it but will Google it and may get some through Amazon next Christmas.
Woolworths is gone????? Since it's been gone here for ages, I always thought I could count on visiting a shop over there. Blast!
Yes - I couldn't have my Angel Chimes working this year - little table decoration which infuriates the rest of the family with it's incessant ding-ding-ding. It was a family heirloom from my Aunt - but only place we could ever get candles to fit was Woolies. So it didn't come out this year :-(
I was forbidden to put lametta on the tree this year, on the basis that neither of us is really fit, there was too much else going on, and it would all be so much easier and quicker to tidy up again. Very sensible ... but I did miss it.
I don't think I got ours in Woollies though. Actually, I think it was the Co-op. You could try the markets, too. ;)

I didn't find any chocolate while taking down the decorations, but did find a roller that belonged on the bottom of my vacuum. No wonder it felt as though I was pushing a 100-pound weight around the room when vacuuming! Now I'll have to find another way of exercising.

My curcuit training classes start again this evening, rose. I definitely need but don't feel like them!
