A bad day in the kitchen

The Community Cafe is open again for the next two weeks and I was on volunteer duty today. As it was the first day of opening we had lots of food to cook. I burned the vegetarian chilli and made soup that could stand up on its own. I should have stopped when I was ahead but I came home and made a sponge to take to the cafe tomorrow. It turned out little higher than two pancakes.

You can buy your own wind turbine at B&Q! Doesn't that sound great? A little windmill in your own garden.

I must try and conquer this phobia I have of odd numbers. When I set the post time, it has to be an even number. Unless it's 5, 15 or 25. 21's not bad either. But 22:07? No chance.

There will be no customers at this rate. At least they might not ask you to come again.

I reset all my posts to 12:01AM. I post them before I go to bed but want them to be on tomorrow's date. How bizarre is that?

"Mama told me there'd be days like this!" Yep...we all have 'em! Best just to stop and curl up under the doona with a good book and wait it out! ;)

OTOH, 2207 is a prime choice ;-)

I just popped in to say hello, it is strange indeed that you have problems with numbers, lol !

I'm not very good cooking which means that I have a talent for 'rescuing' my offerings...

I wouldheap a generous amount of buttericing in between the sponges to give it height, then pour a large quantity of chocolate frosting over the cake, before it sets spinkle (generously) chocolate buttons, curls all over and no-one will know! Oh and give it posh name thats the important bit, no-one asks if it sounds posh ;0)

jmb! And you're a smart woman as well! That reassures me.

If only I learned to do that, lee, instead of ploughing on to more disasters!

Is it really, stu? Do you just know all the prime numbers? Or do you work it out?

Gattina, a little strange maybe ...

4kids, good plan. If I had had icing sugar, butter, chocolate etc I could have done that! I did have a little icing sugar and covered it with that and put lots of jam in the middle. Apricot not red because I'd even run out of that. I should have done the posh name though!

I know the primes up to 1000 just by conjuring up this quilt in my mind's eye (http://home.egge.net/~savory/maths5.htm). I still have a fairly good memory for things learned by rote in school. It's just the everyday things I'm starting to forget (I think we discussed this already this year?).

But for 2207 I had to work it out.
Lickily I also know the divisibility rules for numbers up to 50 and since the square root of 2207 is less than 47, it's just 14 tests to run through in your head.
See also http://home.egge.net/~savory/maths1.htm

You can't know all the primes, since there is infinite number of them. My proof is here :- http://home.egge.net/~savory/maths15.htm

Maths is my religion, don't you know ;-)

I agree with Lee - we all have cooking days like that! You set the post time for each one??

I often reset the time on my posts, especially Wordless Wednesdays and photo hunts. As for cooking I bet your sponge was far better than anything I have ever managed to prodce. I made a Victoria Sandwich which tasted as if it was made before 1901!
