Sleep tight, Harvey

In the garden yesterday.

We took Harvey to the vet for the last time this morning.

He could barely lift his head from his mat, his breathing was quick and shallow, and he was distressed. The vet came out to the car and we were stroking him at the end.

Liz I am so very sorry. I know it is very difficult; we went throught the same thing before Christmas with Suki whom we had for 16years. I do feel for you and your family; you are in my prayers.

I feel really sad about this. I cried when we had to get David's Hamster Bella put down (even though she was a little Git I still hated to see her suffer at the end) and I'm feeling rather damp eyed as I type.

Dogs are great companions and I'm sure loved ones are badly missed.

Oh, Liz. My heart goes out to you all. Only those of us to whom our pets are all can understand. Dear Harvey, he had YOU, Liz - and you were the best Mum to him there could be. But nothing I can say will comfort you tonight, I know... My email is patrizia.mary@alice.it if you want to cry, scream. sob, shout online. I wish I was there with you. God bless and love from Sicily.

I am so sad to hear that it came to this. But having been there 3 times myself, I know that it was a quiet, peaceful end to a full and wonderful life. Harvey is happy and pain free in the big kennel in the sky, but will always be very much a part of you. It usually takes a while to get past these events, but you will. The last time we had to put one to sleep, we agreed that Dr. Kevorkian is right. We really do treat our 4 legged friends better than we treat each other. I wish I had the option of choosing such an elegant passing when the time comes.

Dear, dear Liz...I'm so sorry...our wonderful, beautiful Harvey...I can't say anything further at the moment as this has upset me. Harvey was loved and cherished by many.

Oh Liz, I'm so sorry. I know just how hard this was for, you having had to put my little Westie down several years ago. I too held her while they gave her the injection, but you know you did the right thing, don't you? There comes the time when their needs to be beyond the suffering are greater than our needs to hold on to them.
We never forget them and I can see he was enjoying the sunshine there for a bit with you.
Take care my friend.

I'm so sorry, Liz. I know there's nothing I can say that would make it better... I just hope you treasure your fond memories of him and that it isn't too much to bear.

When I was a little girl and I lost a pet, I asked my mother if there were animals in heaven.

She said, "Heaven is the perfect Eden, paradise for both people and their animals. We'll have everything we need for complete happiness-- and that includes our pets."

Hope that helps.

Rest in peace, Harvey.

Oh Liz, that's SO sad. And so courageous of you making the right decision (always hard, hard, hard).

Best snuzzles from Bulldogs Frieda and Kosmo, and hugs to all.

I am SO sorry, Liz...I was afraid maybe the time was getting near...but you always hope for more time.

You gave him love all his life and then did the most merciful thing and let him leave in peace so he wouldn't suffer. My thoughts and prayers are with you. I know how hard it is, having had to do the same for our old girl two years ago. But knowing they're at peace helps...it's just the not having them here anymore that is so hard for us who are left behind.
