Books

I keep seeing a book tag that is doing the rounds. No-one has tagged me but that is probably because all the people who've done it (that I've seen) have been awfully intellectual in their choice of books and far too clever for me. I've never even heard of half of the books. So here is my little list. And if any equally intellectually-challenged people would like to be tagged, consider yourself so.

1) A book that changed my life:
I thought about saying the Bible but it was God not the book that changed my life.

2) A book I've read more than once:
All of the Stephanie Plum series by Janet Evanovich. It's through these books that I developed the longing to be called cupcake. Preferably by a lean, tanned, muscular cop called Joe.
3) A book I'd take to a desert island:
Brother of the More Famous Jack. Just because it's my favouritest book ever and the only book (I think) I ever gave as a present to someone. You know how hard it is to choose a book for someone else? I just knew this would be right for the person.
4) A book that made me laugh:
The Stephanie Plum series again.
5) A book that made me cry:
Marley and Me. Probably others but that is the most recent.
6) A book I wish had been written:
Anything that sold well and made me a famous (and rich) author.

7) A book that should never have been written:
The Travelling Hornplayer. The sequel to BotMFJ. I waited so long for a sequel and when it came, it stank. The man I fell in love with in BotMFJ behaves in a way completely out of line with who he is.
It is one of the rare books I just couldn't finish. I gave it to a charity shop.
8) A book I'm currently reading:
The Other Boleyn Girl

9) A book I'm planning to read:
The Other Boleyn Girl (I haven't actually started it yet.)

Um, hello, the only book you've ever given as a present? I am reading one from you right now. As, probably, are Rob, Neil, Steve and all the children in the extended family.

Ooh, books!! :)

1) A book that changed my life:
I've been a ferocious reader since the tender age of 4 when I first learnt to read, so picking just one is a bit difficult! Possibly The Dispossed by Ursula K Le Guin. Though there are many, many more I could list.

2) A book I've read more than once:
Ha! I'm constantly rereading books (generally because I've read all the library books by Saturday evening and the library obviously isn't open on a Sunday...) Reading an old famliar book is extrememly comforting - sort of like a secrity blanket.

3) A book I'd take to a desert island: Only one?! Umm, The Dispossed, Mister God, this is Anna by Flynn, and the Bible. (And I know that's three.)

4)A book that made me laugh: Recently I read My Family and other Animals by Gerald Durrell that made me laugh, and I'm reading Three Men in a Boat by Jerome K. Jerome which likewise makes me chuckle.

5) A book that made me cry: This happens quite a lot (along with the laughing) as I get very into what I read. Recently I read Stories from below the poverty line, which made me angry and shed a few tears. Little Women always makes me cry.

6) A book I wish had been written:
a guide to sounding intelligent when talking about things you know nothing of.

7) A book that should have never been written: Oh there was something written by somebody who was so full of himself I couldn't finish it. Obviously this must have been so horrible I've blocked it out of my mind in self-defence... :)

8)A book I'm currently reading: Anabaptists & Postmodernity (as I'm at home and have full run of their library:), Three Men in a Boat, The Bell by Iris Murdoch, Four Ways to Forgiveness by Ursula K Le Guin.

9)A book I'm planning to read:
Ghostwritten by David Mitchell, Our Asian Journey by ?, and a million others!

oh, yes, Three Men in a Boat. that made me laugh too.

I know I gave you books but this was to a grown-up person whose tastes I wasn't sure of. So that's what i mean. Although I had forgotten the (probably) hundreds of books I have bought for my children.

Rob, obviously not too hectic in Madrid right now?

GHHHH! Must get to work. (I nearly put 'back' but that would have been a lie.)

I have to say thank you for my book Liz! Very thoughtful of you. And very useful.

1)changed my life... Life of Pi (Yann Martel) and The Devil and Miss Prym (Paulo Coelho) really changed my life this summer

2)read more than once... Malory Towers (Enid Blyton)

3)take to a desert island... in the same vein as Rob, I would take SAS Survival Handbook: How to Survive in the Wild, in Any Climate, on Land or at Sea, because otherwise I would be dead within 3 hours

4)made me laugh... Winnie the Pooh (AA Milne)

5)made me cry... Time Travellers Wife (Audrey Niffenegger) but the Bible has often made me cry too

6)i wish had been written... something like memoirs by my grandparents, which i find in the attic!

7)should never have been written... anything by Gillian McKeith

8)currently reading... A Year in the Life of Richmond (Joanna Jackson)

9)planning to read... Blink (Malcolm Gladwell)
