Poor George!

Once again George has a patch of infected dermatitis just below where his collar goes. 'Try to stop him scratching it or at least protect it from his claws,' the vet said, hence the sock, which stayed on for about 5 minutes. I thought he might like a sock with Snoopy on it but perhaps he'd prefer Garfield: they are of the same mind when it comes to food.

Hmmm...I think you might need to put that huge collar thingy on him to keep him from chewing on his leg. Poor thing! :(

No, leslie, the infected patch is on his neck so a protective collar would just rub it more.

Poor George! I couldn't help but chuckle though--I couldn't see a sock staying on 10 seconds! Maybe if you put socks on all his feet, it would take him longer to get to the offending scratching foot. Bo says Woof! Get well George!

Oh, poor George! What type of collar does he wear?

I know he has tons of fur, but I've heard of a few greyhounds that have to wear silk lined collars to avoid skin trouble on their necks. Not that I'm advocating the use of silk (I'm not!) but perhaps a lined fabric martingale might help to avoid problems? Or could he be allergic to the nickel in his tag?

Love the sock! Though clearly George didn't! LOL!

George and Luckie must have some kind of summer heat itch.

Luckie just finished a round of antibiotics and anti-itch drug for something akin to FAD (Flea Allergic Dermatitis) but no fleas.

Now she has huge white scaly dandruff and dry skin. Her "beauty shop" attendant gave her an oil treatment and used medicated shampoo this past week.

I'm boarding her fror 8 days starting gthe 12th and leaving several instructions for vet to investigate.

George looks a tad uncomfortable and bored. Hope he is soon back to his rollicking self.

Poor George; I hope that infection is starting to clear up by now. How DO you keep a dog from scratching?? I know the cone-thing wouldn't be appropriate for George in this case, but even if it was, he'd probably be like Sophie--she was supposed to wear hers for 10 days after being spayed, but managed to get it off after being home an hour:)

You might be better off trying him on a harness until it heals, Liz. Re: the itching - pure aloe vera gel, which you can get from the Body Shop, is good for soothing itchy skin. I used it on old Alfie, and it stopped him scratching.
