I'd better not go to the Philippines

A man was shot dead in a Philippine karaoke bar last week for singing out of tune.

Apparently violence is not uncommon in Philippine karaoke bars. The Frank Sinatra song "My Way" has been taken off the programme in many places after it was found to be the cause of fights and even deaths when patrons sang out of tune.

On the news tonight, it said that Moscow has responded to George Bush's plan to build this space umbrella thingy, by saying, if America goes ahead with it, they will target their weapons on Europe. Excuse me?! How is that fair?

If they do that, we'll ... we'll smuggle all our old barometers into their country. See how they like that.

Excellent idea Liz, that will get them!

I didn't get that about aiming the missiles at Europe either. does he not know how long it took the U.S. to get into WWII? I don't think bombing Europe will sufficiently piss them off do you?

If the barometers aren't intimidating enough, I think the stretch slacks will terrify them, especially if they have straps that pass under your feet...

Oh, dear, I'd better not go to the Philippines either, then! Barometers - yep! That'll scare 'em!

Europe, well why not?

Brussells first, hopefully.

Very good idea. Except I think they already have a bunch, since I don't believe they have banned mercury there. I could be wrong but I haven't heard about it.

I guess the far east is still big on karaoke bars. Never visiting one, but then again, I can't sing.

Well, I've heard some karaoke singers that shoulda' been shot, too, so it's a good rule in my book! Hope they've banned "The Candy Man" and "Feelings," as well. Both have cause rampant insanity over the years.

It's hard to take Putin seriously ever since someone said that Dobby in the Harry Potter movies is based on him. (Ever notice that Dobby looks like Vladamir?)

I think they'd be quite happy to sacrifice Europe 'for the gretaer good', Lady M.

Imagine it, Delicolor, an army of middle-aged women, in their beige stretch slacks, marching towards the enemy. They'd be waving the white flag in seconds. Especially, Welshcakes, if the women were carrying barometers!

Even if Russia still has its barometers, jmb, I still think we'd be a pretty terrifying sight.

We're in Europe too you know, cbi!

Steve, Welshcakes, perhaps we should get together and form the Tuneless Trio. Visit one karaoke bar after another until we get them all shut down. Or at least those that play My Way, Candy Man, and Feelings. How does that sound, Mary?

I hadn't noticed that about Dobby but now you come to mention it ...

Oh dear, deleted posts. Are you getting spam?

No, I posted something that was too dangerous and Liz was kind enough to remove it my request.

Shoulda thought first and commented later.

Oops :-(

Sadly, only the bad news are remembered. There are a lot of great places in the Philippines and a lot of things to do for tourists. I think it's very unfair and judgmental to make conclusions out of this news only. News can be exaggerated.

You think Europe or US is safer? I went to France last November and was victimized by a pick-pocket. I am in the US right now and the local news in Texas? A teenager was abducted and feared dead and there are other crimes. Hearing that news, will you still go to the US? Probably yes, because it's US and not the third-world Philippines.

I must tell you, even foreigners say that Manila is safer than Washington DC!!!

murder for murdering a Sinatra song - some would say that is merely justice being served
