Bush signs torture bill

I thought I must have misheard the headline yesterday.

As the news presenter carried on to talk about a variety of other items, I decided I must have got it wrong. it obviously wasn't true that President Bush had signed a bill that allowed evidence obtained during torture to be admissible. If that had been the case then surely it would have warranted more than a brief mention?

As I'd heard no more by this afternoon I googled on 'Bush torture evidence'.

It's true. 'Bush signs torture bill.'

Aren't we glad we have this 'Christian' as the most powerful person in the world?

Yup. AND he gets to choose who the "baddies" are that he can torture! I notice Mr. McCain - who helped pass the bill in the Senate - didn't show up for the signing. He knows good and well this will come back to haunt everyone who had anything to do with it. Aaargh!

Well of course Bush knows best. The CIA would never make a mistake.

It is depressing.

It's absolutely appalling what is going on in the name of "security." I hope a thorough sweep is done and the house cleaned out next election. It's time to start all over from the bottom up.

Did you hear about the teenager in America who put a picture of Bush on her blog, and drew a knife going through his hand? The FBI turned up at her school for 'a word'. Are they allowed to torture any old one, like Jack Bauer?

Liz, don't take this wrong,I'm not a Bush fan. If my wife was kidnaped and buried in a pit with a limited amount of air and the Police had the kidnapper in custody. If the only way they could find out where she was buried was to break a few of the kidnapper's fingers. I'd say go for it. Wouldn't every husband. Most anyway.

I know, Steve. It's the same for your children, isn't it? You'd do anything to protect/save them. It's not an easy topic but I think maybe it's when it becomes lawful for the state and there's anonymity and secrecy and doubt that it becomes scarey.

But, hey, I'm a mother and you know how mothers protect their young!

Liz, if we had children, it would be the same.
